Nutritional Supplements for Bad Breath

Supplements &Vitamins for bad breath

Since most bad breath stems from bacterial production of odiferous compounds, mainly sulphur, general measures to reduce bacteria as well as measures targeted at prevention or treatment of periodontitis and gingivitis may be helpful.

Mouthwashes or toothpastes containing a compound called stabilized chlorine dioxide appear to help eliminate bad breath by directly breaking down sulphur compounds in the mouth. One study showed reductions in mouth odor for at least four hours following the use of a mouthrinse containing this substance.

Some research has also shown that zinc can reduce the concentration of volatile sulphur compounds in the mouth.

One study found that the addition of zinc to a baking soda toothpaste reduced halitosis by lowering the levels of these compounds.

Nutritional supplements for prevention and treatment of bad breath and  gum disease include vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc,  co enzyme Q10, and folic acid.

 Co enzyme Q10

Brushing with toothpaste that contains coenzyme Q10 works wonders in preventing gum disease, which is a major cause of bad breath.
Folic Acid Folic Acid is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells

 Zinc

Zinc has an effect on plaque formation, and it has been suggested that zinc salts combined with ionone, an ingredient of tomato juice, seem to produce a much longer anti-plaque and anti-odour effect than either alone
Selenium Selenium is an anti-oxidant with anti-aging properties to protect the immune system.

Vitamin C Vitamin C deficiency may be a co factor in bad breath. Smokers, especially should take regular supplements of vitamin C since the nicotine in the cigarettes destroys vitamin C
Vitamin E  Vitamin E to boost the immune system and fight infection
